The Webmin server control panel supports creating backups to remote file storages by default.

Setting up backup creation

Let’s look at creating such a task using the example of creating backups to your Cloud Storage:

Important: all highlighted variables in the examples must be replaced with your information.

1. Log in to your Webmin panel using the root account.

2. Go to the System section, the Filesystem Backup tab.

3. Enter the path to the desired directory and click Add a new backup of directory. The backup task setup menu will open. All forms must be filled in:

Where:

  • Directories to backup – paths to all folders that need to be added to the archive.
  • Host – remote host address, for example server.keepdata.thehost.ua. You can find out the address of your Cloud Storage host as follows.
  • Remote backup command – select FTP if you do not need to use SSH.
  • As user – active FTP user on the remote storage. In our example, ftp_user, created inside the KeepData panel.
  • Password for SSH/FTP login – password of such FTP user.
  • In file or device – path to the directory (based on the root directory for the FTP user), where the backup will be written. In our example, it is /backup/.

4. If desired, you can immediately set up backup schedules using the Backup schedule spoiler when creating a task:

5. The Webmin panel also has a native tool for backing up configuration files of different modules. It is located in the Webmin section, Backup Configuration Files tab. Setting up backup is similar:

6. Done! Now when you perform a backup using the standard Webmin path, it will also be uploaded to your Cloud Storage or any other remote server you specified.
